Ian MacLean has practiced from his office in the Town of Pictou since 1978. Although engaged in a general practice in the early years, he developed expertise and a focus upon real estate law, and now provides service in the real estate field throughout the Province.

Throughout the years Ian built an experienced, dedicated and highly competent team of co-workers, consisting of a Title Searcher, Real Estate Assistants and Legal Assistants.

With the introduction of the Land Registration Act requiring migration of property titles into the electronic registry system, and the various changes associated with such implementation, Ian took on the role of training lawyers and support staff throughout the Province during the period from 2003-2005. He was then appointed an Auditor with the mandate of reviewing certain work carried out by other lawyers. He continues to perform this function.

For the past number of years Ian has presented extensively at continuing professional development conferences including those hosted by the Real Estate Lawyers Association of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Bar Association and various County Bar Societies. He has also presented educational materials at various forestry and other landowner group conferences and meetings.

Ian has served for a number of years on committees of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, with a view to establishing and promoting good real estate law practices.

He was awarded the Queen’s Counsel designation in 2011.

In addition to his professional endeavours, Ian is an active participant in a number of volunteer organizations.

Ian and his co-workers were pleased to join the Mac, Mac & Mac team on April 1st, 2018, operating as “MacLean & MacDonald – (part of MacIntosh, MacDonnell & MacDonald)”. He is continuing in his focus upon real estate law, while collaborating with the Mac, Mac & Mac team (including Heather MacDonald, Joel Sellers and Mary Jane Saunders operating out of the Pictou office), providing a full spectrum of services to his clients.
